Psalm 147:1-6

147 Praise the LORD!  For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. 2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel.             3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. 4 He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. 5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;       his understanding is beyond measure. 6 The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.

We praise the Lord because he alone is worthy to be praised.  Can you hear the love of our savior and Lord Jesus Christ in these verses.  So often we lean on our own understanding and ask God does he even care for us?  But God cared for us so much that he sent his only son to die for our sins.  Jesus would come and live a life just like you and I yet he would do it in full obedience to the father.  Yes God cares for us very much more than we can ever imagine.  Know that you are loved very much today.  Walk in that truth today.

1 Thessalonians 1:2-4  “We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father our work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

I have noticed a theme to the scriptures I have been reading and studying lately.  The Lord our God wants us to look around at our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and encourage them in the grace we see in their life.  I fail to do this often but have God is growing in this area of my life encouraging me to be an encouragement to others.

Look around and see the grace in someone’s life today and then pray giving thanks to God for that grace.  Secondly, encourage the believer by telling  them you prayed to God giving thanks for the grace you see in their life.

Philippians 3:7-11

7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

This has to be one of my favorite passages of the bible.  Paul has just listed all the reasons that he had in this world, in his flesh, to boast about.  Now he turns it all upside down by saying that the list of who he once was in himself is just trash.  He now finds himself in the surpassing greatness of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Paul finds all that he every wanted to try to earn on his own in the grace given to him by Jesus.

Read the verses again and think about yourself.  Think about your life before knowing Christ as Lord and savior.  Did you have a long list of fleshly desires that you hung your hat on?  Now contemplate your former life compared to Christ Jesus and his righteousness.  Is that not amazing grace?

Beloved, you have everything to rejoice in today as you belong to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Set you mind on things above.  You are called by God for His glory.  Pursue Christ daily with all you have, knowing that your old life has past away.

If you do not know Jesus as Lord come to him today realizing that the life you live now will pass away someday very soon and that eternal life is only found in Jesus Christ.  Understand that you have sinned against a Holy and Just God, just like the rest of creation, and are enemies of the cross of Christ.  Repenting of your sin and having faith in Jesus Christ is the only answer we have to our sin problem.

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

This is a wonderful passage we are reading this morning challenging us to walk with the Lord daily in his glorious grace he has given us in Christ Jesus.  Often, I, we look at a fellow believer and are not tenderhearted or very forgiving.  But how is the world can we stay in our selfish sin and not be kind to one another?  In light of what Christ has done for every believer the daily troubles or worries of this world fade away so quickly.  My prayer for each of us today is that we would be kind to one another and give others the grace that God gave each of us.

Psalm 113  “Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!  Blessed  be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore!  From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!

What a great verse to get our day started. Malachi 1:11 speaks of praising the Lord as well from sunrise to sunset. “For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations..”  As you begin your Tuesday be reminded of the finished work of Christ that was done on the cross for you and I.  Praise him this morning in as your day gets started.  Praise him during the day by resting in his finished work. Praise him in the evening again as you go to bed because we serve a Lord that is worthy of all our Praise. Praise all day long.

Rejoice in the Lord!

Psalm 106:48

“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!  And let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the Lord!

So very often I read the Old Testament and watch as time and time again Israel chooses against God.  We read in this Psalm about how they decided over and over again to choose against what God had commanded them.

We stop short of the intent of the Old Testament when we just look at Israel and say they should never had chosen against God.  Instead, we should look at ourselves and see how faithful the Lord is to us in spite of how unfaithful we are.  The Lord is worthy to be praised for so many reasons but let’s praise his holy name for His desire to see Himself glorified in the redemption of sinners who had no desire for God.

I want to encourage you to pray:

“Bless be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!  And let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the Lord!

April 9 Devotional

Psalm 99:5 “Exalt the Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!”

Psalm 99:9 “Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the Lord our God is Holy!”

This Psalm encourages us to exalt the Lord because he alone is worthy to be worshiped. Christians you are to praise God today because he is Holy! Each week we gather to worship together as a congregation the goodness and Holiness of our God but this is not a action just to be done when we gather. Each day as you awaken to be sanctified daily in our Lord Jesus Christ remember that He is the one that is Holy and worthy of all your praise today for the good work that he alone accomplished on the cross for you and I. Exalt our savior today in your pursuit of our living God and King.

Hebrews 7:26 “For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.”
